WHAT DOES YOUR MORNING ROUTINE LOOK LIKE?
I am a total morning person (sometimes to a fault!) They are my “me time”- always uninterrupted and can set the tone for the day. I love to start my morning with a few minutes of meditation to clear my head, get some quiet time in, and prepares me to handle what the day brings. In whatever way possible, I find time to move; whether it’s going to the gym, my favorite fitness class, or just doing some stretching if that’s what my body’s craving. Movement creates positive energy and boosts your serotonin levels. I’m always blasting music of some sort and loading up on lemon water to bring my body back to an alkaline state and reset my digestion. This is also usually a time of meal prep for me- breakfast and lunch for my husband and I. I try to give myself a solid hour before diving into emails or projects.
WHAT IS THE BEST PART OF BEING AN ENTREPRENEUR?
Being able to live my passion- by my own rule and make an impact on other peoples’ lives at the same time. I love sharing my love for nutrition, wellness and dance with others. It’s truly the best feeling. Building a business that’s based on your own creativity and hard work is incredibly rewarding- and fun! It also keeps me challenged and constantly evolving. I have multiple passions and am always thinking of new ways to educate my clients and share my story. I can do that on my own terms, and it feels incredibly exciting!
WHAT IS THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF BEING AN ENTREPRENEUR? The success of my business is dependent on me, and the action I take. Even as a passionate entrepreneur, we can get in our own way. I’ve done it many times. I beat myself up, a lot. Plus, most people around you can’t necessarily relate to having/starting your own business. There’s a lot of times where we say “no” to social activities, happy hours, and other “normal” things because we’re on a mission to create impact with our business or working on a deadline that doesn’t hold to the “9-5” business hours. At times, it can get lonely. Frustrating, too. After all, there’s no “entrepreneurial manual” telling you how to drive your business! It’s all up to YOU to make it happen at the end of the day. Oftentimes, I feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done that I set out to do- and although I preach it in my coaching programs, setting work/life balance boundaries can get challenging. Our world is so mobile and social media-focused- sometimes it feels like everything needs to be immediately documented and shared.
WHAT IS SOMETHING THAT YOU DO FOR YOURSELF EVERYDAY?
I think this goes back to my morning routine- it’s my me time. Finding time for movement is so incredibly healing and necessary for me to feel energized, clear-headed and focused. I also find it incredibly healing and soothing to cook for myself. Knowing what I’m putting into my body and that I’m fueling it to the best of my ability is crucial. But honestly- making time to laugh is important too- whether it’s at myself, with my husband, my family or friends- laughter is good for the soul.
WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO INVEST IN WHEN STARTING A BUSINESS? Hands down, a website. In the beginning, it doesn’t need to necessarily be fancy. But, having clear content and storytelling copy that speaks directly to your target audience is crucial. Also, let’s be honest- this world is all about social media today. Having social media channels set up for your business are key- it’s a great way for you to stay engaged with your audience, share your story, build your brand awareness and increase your following. It’s also a great way for people to learn more about and interact with you, and your brand. Today, it’s all about building a relationship with your consumer. Building trust, treating them like you would a family member or your best friend. And with social media and websites- it’s leveraging that relationship and building it with great content. If photography and copywriting aren’t your strengths, that’s a well-worth investment too.
WHAT’S YOUR GREATEST MOTIVATION? What motivates me is freedom. Freedom to live my life on my own terms- and knowing that the potential for my business is up to me and the investment of time an effort I put into it. Also, everything I’ve learned along this journey means NOTHING if I don’t share it- so what’s just as motivating to me is knowing how many people I can help to inspire to live a healthier, happier life when I share my story.
HOW DO YOU STAY FOCUSED/PRODUCTIVE AND MAKE THE BEST OF THE SAME 24 HOURS THAT EVERYONE ELSE HAS? As my mentor Marie Forleo says “if it’s not scheduled, it’s not real” and I live by this. I find I’m far more productive when I build time into my calendar to get projects done. That being said, I know my most productive hours are in the morning, so I try to get the most important things done in that time.
The other important thing to remember, is sometimes we need schedule breaks and time for self-care in order to stay healthy and productive. And this looks different for everyone. For me, staying productive means that I have the energy and feel in touch with my creative self. So, in order to do that I make sure to eat quality foods that fuel that energy, get enough sleep, make time to workout, but also make time for the fun stuff too! It’s always a balancing act! To stay inspired to create, often times we need to get out of our own head and experience life. Whether that’s going for a walk, listening to a podcast, taking a dance class, traveling, or reading up on the latest wellness trends- it’s great to keep learning so that you can keep your content fresh!
WHO DO YOU LOOK UP TO/FOLLOW ON SOCIAL MEDIA/USE AS A MENTOR? SO MANY PEOPLE! Marie Forleo is my go-to for all things marketing, branding and content. She’s hilarious and brilliant! I also love Gabby Bernstein for keeping in tune with my spiritual side. Robyn Youkilis is another brilliant Health Coach. Nicole Jardim is my Hormonal Health mentor, I’ve learned endless amounts of wisdom from her programs. So many more but that’s who comes to mind immediately…
WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF BUSINESS ADVICE THAT YOU’VE EVER GOTTEN? Everything is figure-outable! Also- take massive action to make things happen- it’s the only way to move forward.
WHAT IS THE BEST BUSINESS ADVICE THAT YOU’VE EVER GIVEN? Get out of your own way! Focus on what feels good to you and be genuine. Energy is everything and people pick up on that. Surround yourself with people who inspire you and motivate you to be better. And never stop learning.
WHAT DOES NO ONE TELL YOU ABOUT BEING AN ENTREPRENEUR? It’s not for the faint-hearted! There’s a lot of hard work, thought, and even sometimes frustration and tears that go behind every project, success does NOT happen overnight- although sometimes it looks so “fun and easy-breezy” on social media- of course it does! You’ve also got to be willing to take risks in order to grow. But it can also be insanely, incredibly rewarding- and fun! All at the same time.
